A Successful Close to Phase 1

Henger wrapped up a successful three days at the 140th China Import and Export Fair - the Canton Fair - when Phase 1 closed in Guangzhou on 19 October. It was our third exhibition in under two months, after Alimentaria FoodTech in Barcelona and MITEC Malaysia before that.

Thank you to every buyer, distributor and engineer who came to the stand. What follows is a short record of the fair - and, for anyone evaluating us for the first time, a note on why we keep showing up in person.

The Fair

The Canton Fair is China's largest and longest-running trade fair, held every spring and autumn at the China Import and Export Fair Complex on Yuejiang Zhong Road in Guangzhou's Haizhu District. Each session runs in three phases, and machinery sits in Phase 1, which this autumn ran from 15 to 19 October.

For an equipment manufacturer, Phase 1 is the relevant week. Buyers arrive with projects rather than catalogues, and conversations start from layouts and line capacities rather than from price lists.

What Was on the Stand

Five lines were on show: fruit and vegetable processing equipment; slaughtering and meat processing machinery; dairy and beverage production lines; workshop cleaning equipment and stainless steel tools; and one-stop cold storage and refrigeration solutions.

On the hygiene side, that meant the equipment this site focuses on - crate washing machines for container loops, apron washing machines for garments, and air showers at the high-care door: the steps that sit between the raw material arriving and the packing line running.

What Buyers Focused On

The visitor mix at a general trade fair is wider than at a specialist food show: importers, distributors and project contractors stood alongside food plant engineers, and much of the conversation was about combining several lines into one project.

Three questions came up often enough to be worth answering here. How equipment from different lines is staged and delivered together for a new plant. How cleaning and entry-hygiene steps are laid out around a production flow rather than added afterwards. And what a realistic configuration looks like for a first workshop rather than a tenth.

These are the conversations a fair of this kind is good for. A buyer can compare the cleaning equipment on one stand with the production line it will sit beside, and leave with a picture of the whole project rather than a single machine.

Why We Exhibit in Person

Equipment like this is bought once and then lived with for years, and the decision usually comes down to whether the supplier is real: a factory with welders, an engineering team, and machines that can be inspected before any money moves.

A stand settles that question in an afternoon. Visitors can look at the weld seams and the sheet thickness, put questions to the people who build the machines rather than to a catalogue, and see the cleaning equipment next to the processing line it will sit beside.
